What is kratom?
Kratom comes from the leaves of Mitragyna speciosa, a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia. The plant was given its scientific name by Dutch botanist Pieter Willem Korthals, the namesake of our collection. For generations, the leaves have been dried, ground, and brewed; today you can enjoy them as powders, capsules, extracts, teas, and seltzers.
Kratom leaves contain naturally occurring alkaloids, most notably mitragynine. Different strains and vein colors carry different alkaloid profiles, which is why people often choose a strain based on the kind of experience it may support, from an easygoing wind-down to a clean, focused lift.
Vein colors, explained
Kratom is most often grouped by the color of the leaf vein at harvest. Vein color is the simplest way to choose a strain by the experience it may support. Here is the quick version:
Red vein
The most mellow group. Reds are the go-to for unwinding and may support relaxation and soothing comfort at the end of the day.
